Tagging devices GW Trekker EX and GP5 Trekker passed the Technology Assessment of PETRONAS Group Research and Technology
as a people tracking solution

The devices of GASSB Real-Time Location System had completed the test of hardware capability and reliability such as the test of weather and durability. It also shows the accuracy of the tracking of movement both indoor and outdoor based on GPS wireless technology. Besides, the test has shown the capability of the Trekkers to provide proximity distance and movement alerts.

GASSB marked this day with the handover of GW Trekker™ EX and GP5 Trekker™ devices to PETRONAS Technology Ventures Sdn. Bhd. which occasioned GASSB’s entry into the Digital Worker market with the introduction of its tracking devices for contact tracing, productivity and safety monitoring.

Hydrogen-Powered Aviation

In collaboration with Doosan Mobility Innovation Co.,Ltd (South Korea), GASSB supplied the first Hydrogen-Powered Fuel Cell Drone to a research & development company in Malaysia. During the period, unmanned inspection and surveillance studies on flight endurance, downtime and reliability of the drone were conducted using hydrogen-powered technology as a clean energy source for the aviation industry. The single drone flight test was completed in one of Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) approved facilities.

4,500 RTLS devices supplied to Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRCSB) in Malacca

The refinery is involved in a full spectrum of downstream activities. The utilisation of the RTLS devices had enabled a good control of HSE compliance and productivity during the Shutdown 2022 of MRCSB for routine maintenance and servicing.

It was a momentous event for senior management of PETRONAS Downstream to witness the satisfactory performance of the RTLS devices for Malaysian Refining Company Sdn. Bhd. (MRCSB) in the monitoring of HSE compliance and productivity. The focused recognition award by the CEO of MRCSB is a testament to the positive impact in the utilization of the RTLStags.

1,500 RTLS devices supplied to PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB) for Gas Processing Plant 4 (GPP4) in Kertih, Terengganu

The GPP4 is one the six (6) GPPs (Gas Processing Plants) which processes feed gas from offshore. 1,500 GP5 Trekkers were deployed for its Shut Down 2022. The devices provided data insights into workload, productivity tracing, and safety monitoring of field workers.

100 RTLS devices supplied to Malaysia LNG (MLNG) in Bintulu, Sarawak

The Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Bintulu is one of the world’s largest LNG trains, of which three belong to MLNG Satu, three to MLNG Dua, two to MLNG Tiga and one to Train 9 (PL9SB). The RTLS devices were deployed for a 60-day performance test run to monitor users’ location & productivity in the plant

Consecutive order of 300 RTLS devices by PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB) for the PGU-I Gas Pipeline Replacement Project (Graphite)
in Kertih, Terengganu

The Graphite comprises of the NPS 36 pipeline and associated pipeline facilities with a pipeline route of 33 km in Terengganu commencing from Gas Processing Plant, Kertih and terminating at a tie-in station in Kemaman. The RTLS devices were deployed for the monitoring of the safety and productivity of personnel at site for replacement of old piping with new piping re-routed to the tie-in station.

Phase 1 (Provision of Engineering Study for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Application in Drone)

While more headway has been made with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) such as drones, GASSB conducted R&D programs in collaboration with a local partner to study the performance parameters of fuel cell drone powered by hydrogen. Comparisons with readily available battery-powered vehicles were established. Safety and regulatory requirements of hydrogen storage tanks were examined. The R&D programs were aimed to study the techno-economic merits of hydrogen-powered UAV for commercialization.

Productivity Monitoring for a new Melamine Plant

20 RTLS devices were developed to PETRONAS Project Delivery & Technology (PD&T) for the Sahara Rose project located at Perwaja Steel Fabrication Yard in Gurun Kedah, Malaysia, as a part of PETRONAS PD&T’s Tracker Enhancement Program (TEP). This program is aimed to monitor the spools fabrication for a new melamine plant which is slated to be integrated into the existing yard.

40 RTLS devices were deployed to Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRCSB) to monitor operations at its bonded warehouse in Sungai Udang, Melaka Malaysia

The RTLS devices were deployed to the personnel with the objective to monitor the productivity and mobility of the workforce for the pre-turnaround activities at the bonded warehouse.

3,500 RTLS devices deployed to Malaysia Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRCSB) for Turnaround 2024

Following the successful utilization of SPOT devices and lessons learnt during MRCSB Turnaround 2022 for routine maintenance and servicing, the MRCSB Turnaround 2024 is expected to achieve a higher level of productive man-hours as the result of the increased number of active users arising from the improved protocol in the distribution of devices and well-captured registration information, thus paving way for an efficient and effective Turnaround with a reduced timeframe.

MMHE, a subsidiary of MISC Berhad (MISC), has built a strong foundation in the marine and heavy engineering industry and is also involved in a wide spectrum of oil and gas engineering construction. RTLS was deployed for POC to check on its feasibility synchronization with MMHE current entry control data to track the physical movement of personnel and monitor productivity.

1,800, RTLS devices supplied to Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) for Module 7 Turnaround 2024

MLNG Primary business is the liquefaction and export of liquiefied natural gas (LNG) from Malaysia. MLNG also provides a range of other services, such as LNG shipping, regasification and trading. The RTLS devices were deployed to monitor users location and productivity in the plant, safety mustering, fall alerts, and search & rescue operations for facilitating quick and effective responses.

3,800, RTLS devices supplied to Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) for Module 1 Pitstop Shutdown 2024 (M1PSD24)

The refinery is involved in a full spectrum of downstream activities. The utilization of the RTLS devices by operations personnel had enabled a good control of HSE compliance and productivity during the Module 1 Pitstop Shutdown  of MLNG for routine maintenance and servicing.

Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG): Transition to Long-Term Operational Excellence (2025)
MLNG Operation & Maintenance January 2025 to Present

Following the successful utilization during critical 2024 Turnarounds, MLNG has elevated the RTLS system from a project-based solution to an integrated, year-round operational tool. With an average of 2,500 devices deployed monthly, this long-term engagement signifies the client’s confidence in RTLS’s ability to ensure continuous HSE compliance, optimize routine maintenance, and provide real-time personnel visibility across the facility, establishing a new benchmark for operational safety and efficiency.

MLNG Pitstop and Turnaround 2025

The ongoing relationship with MLNG is further solidified by the scheduled deployment of RTLS devices across their major 2025 shutdowns, ensuring safety and productivity during these critical, high-intensity periods.

MLNG Marlin Turnaround 2025

613 RTLS devices were utilized to support the dedicated maintenance activities of the MLNG Marlin Turnaround. The deployment focused on maintaining precise location tracking and facilitating rapid safety mustering within the specified operational area, contributing to the efficient execution and timely completion of the turnaround.

MLNG Integrated Turnaround 2025

This substantial deployment, covering the Module 2 Pitstop and the Total Shutdown of MLNG & MLNG DUA (including Modules 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7), represents one of the longest pitstop and turnaround of SPOT technology to date. The deployment of 4,228 devices was crucial for managing the immense scale and complexity, providing unparalleled oversight for real-time productivity monitoring, enhancing safety compliance for thousands of workers, and guaranteeing robust emergency response capabilities over the four-month period.

MLNG Module 8 Turnaround 2025

Closing the major shutdown sequence for the year, the Module 8 Turnaround saw the deployment of 2,718 RTLS devices. This final phase leveraged the accumulated data and best practices from earlier shutdowns to maintain a strong focus on HSE excellence, ensuring a safe and productive conclusion to MLNG’s extensive maintenance schedule.

As the operator of the largest single-train ammonia and urea plant in Southeast Asia, PCFSSB plays a critical role in ensuring national food security and driving industrial growth in Malaysia.

2,500 RTLS devices were deployed for the PCFSSB Turnaround. This engagement highlights RTLS’s crucial role in managing safety and productivity during the intensive maintenance period at a major chemical and fertiliser manufacturing complex. The devices provided essential tools for location monitoring, mustering efficiency, and HSE compliance control for PCFSSB’s large workforce
